DID THE DC JACK BREAK ON YOUR LAPTOP? Then you want to check out THIS! (link)

Save yourself the headache of bringing in your system to have these ROGUE APPLICATIONS removed. There has been a rash of these SCARE-WARE ads on numerous websites lately and they are difficult for the end user to remove. RULE OF THUMB: If something pops up on your system telling you that you have viruses and it IS NOT YOUR ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM (such as AVG or AVIRA) then it is FALSE! Just turn the computer off and start over. Don't try to close the pop up or interact with it in ANY WAY. This could load the bogus program onto your system permanently! It is very annoying and could cause you to lose your internet connection, prevent other protection programs from running properly and a wide variety of other ailments. If you end up with a SHIELD icon for this program in your system tray (lower right corner of your screen) then it is already on your system. Bring it to us for removal. There are NUMEROUS versions of these rogue apps, WINANTIVIRUS, PERSONAL ANTIVIRUS, and others. They look VERY "Official", like genuine Windows programs, but are designed to fool you into buying a product.

Google's 11th Birthday?

Google first opened it's doors in September of 1998, but the exact date of Google's birthday varies "depending on when people feel like having cake".
In deference to this excellent policy, we will not quibble over the technicalities as to Google's actual beginnings and wish them a Happy Birthday today.

Happy International Talk Like A Pirate Day 2009

"International Talk Like a Pirate Day (ITLAPD) is a parodic holiday created in 1995 by John Baur (Ol' Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap'n Slappy), of Albany, Oregon, who proclaimed September 19 each year as the day when everyone in the world should talk like a pirate. For example, an observer of this holiday would greet friends not with "Hello," but with "Ahoy, me hearty!" The holiday, and its observance, springs from a romanticized view of the Golden Age of Piracy.

Happy Birthday, Henry Bergh!

The following is from the ASPCA's Web Site - I didn't write any of it, I just thought it was worth sharing with everyone today:

Henry Bergh

Pop a candle in your morning muffin, give your kitty a kiss and join us in celebrating the birthday of ASPCA founder Henry Bergh this Saturday, August 29. Born in 1813, Bergh dedicated his life to advocating for the protection of animals and in 1866, founded the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The organization’s mission: to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.

The comforts Bergh gained for creatures during his lifetime are enormous in scope. He helped pass the nation’s first anti-cruelty law, inspected slaughterhouses and stables, lectured in schools and spoke out against dog fighting, vivisection, horse racing and circuses. He advocated humane alternatives to live pigeons at shooting events, and supplied daily drinking water to the horses who pulled carts and streetcars in Manhattan. By the time of Bergh’s death in 1888, the idea that animals should be protected from cruelty had deeply touched America's conscience.
